Dear Tearoom Diaries I’m sending a photo and note from my dear friend Rosemary who loves your letters and can remember The Block Arcade and the tea rooms when she lived in Melbourne. I talked to Rosemary today and she said she loves receiving the letters each month as it takes her back in time. Rosemary said the letters are beautifully written. Isabel Midwinter writes about the history of the Block Arcade and Tea Rooms which Rosemary finds fascinating because she grew up in the same area. Rosemary’s parents went to the Tea Rooms and her Father proposed to her Mother. So it’s all very nostalgic for dear Rosemary. Thankyou so much for the beautiful letters.

The diaries are the most beautifully written stories, reminding us of how life and people were those years ago. Having two Aunties have their hairdressing and manicure salon there in that era, wonder if they had a cup tea at the tea room flowers from the floriest, met all the girls my mind wanders thinking of them all and the Block Arcade & Melbourne in that era the fashions so elegant , beautiful.

So look forward to getting a “ newsy letter”. Hope you continue with other characters from the Block. When I was very young ( 70) years ago, there was a doll repair shop there in an arcade. Dad took two dolls whose moving eyes had fallen in and they came back repaired with new hair too. Miraculous!!
