Letter 3 ~ Hotel Windsor
The Windsor is Melbourne’s most loved and renowned grand hotel. It was designed by famous architect Charles Webb.
The Hotel Windsor was established in 1883 originally as 'The Grand Hotel' by shipping magnate George Nipper. It combines the classic beauty and architecture of the Victorian age with the graciousness of that bygone era.
The Honourable James Munro acquired the property in 1886, at which time he doubled the size of the hotel. It boasted the latest amenities and five star conveniences:
- hot and cold water
- electric lights
- electric bells
- and elevators
